Dutch Oven – Chili Recipe Dutch Oven Style

Chili Recipe Dutch Oven Style

Ingredients
This chili recipe includes all the normal ingredients that you will find in any basic chili recipe. What makes the difference with this recipe is that it is slow cooked in a dutch oven.

2-3 lbs ground beef (3 lbs makes it thicker)
2 14 ounce cans beef broth
A couple dribbles of dark vinegar (I like more)
3 – 4 dashes chili powder
2 large cans red kidney beans, undrained
2 garlic cloves (or more for garlic lovers like me)
1 packet of French onion soup mix
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 chopped onion
2 14 ounce cans of stewed tomatoes
Dash or two of light brown sugar
1 large family sized can of Campbells tomato soup

Instructions
Chili is a camping favorite of almost every camper. Because this recipe takes a while to cook it is great for almost any extended camping trip and is most appreciated during spring and fall camping trips. Hunters will especially love this recipe. You can speed up the cooking process by browing the beef in a skillet over a camping stove. For the easiest preparation consider mixing the liquid ingredients at home before you leave for your trip.

How to cook:
Combine all ingredients with browned beef in your medium dutch oven and cook under medium hot coals for 5-8 hours – stirring every hour. Avoid cooking in very hot coals because you do want to boil this recipe. If the recipe becomes to thick add a small amount of water or broth.
